Tony Weber is a co-founder of Universal Coal and a mining engineer with over 15 years’ experience in project assessment, finance, development and operations. Tony was previously an executive director of Nkwe Platinum, an Australian listed Platinum developer. Prior to joining Nkwe Platinum in 2003, he worked for Anglo Platinum as Operations Manager at the 40-60 million tonne per annum Potgietersrus Platinum Mine and at the Gamsberg Feasibility Study for Anglo American Operations.

Previously, Tony worked at the New Clydesdale Colliery and the Greenside Colliery for GFSA and for a brief period at the Prosper Hanniel Colliery in Germany.

He has significant skills and experience in coordinating project feasibility studies and hands-on operational experience in the coal extraction industry.

Shammy is a qualified investment banker who started his career as a geologist with Exxaro Resources before moving into the investment world. Shammy worked for Investec Bank and Nedbank Capital, structuring and implementing project finance and BEE deals within the resources industry. Prior to joining Universal Coal, he worked at Nkwe Platinum Ltd as Head of Business Development and Investor Relations.

John Hopkins OAM

John Hopkins is a qualified and experienced lawyer and professional company director. He has been on the board or chairman of more than 20 public listed companies since 1985 (both in Australia and Canada) and as such has been involved in the financing and development (and subsequent M & A activities) of many gold, base metal, energy (coal and oil and gas), mineral sands and other resource projects all over the world.

He currently chairs Wolf Minerals Ltd (WLF) and as such has in the past 5 years overseen the transition from explorer to producer and taking its market capitalisation to over $300m. John is also a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Mr Hopkins was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in January 2015 for services to the minerals and resources sector.

Henri Bonsma is a qualified lawyer and successful businessman with interests throughout South Africa. He has been actively investing in the South African mining industry for over a decade. He  is a co-founder of Universal Coal and has been involved in the establishment of various other junior Chrome, Platinum, and Iron Ore companies and promoted several listings on the JSE, AIM and ASX.

Founding member of TSX-listed Platmin being CEO until 2006, subsequently focused on new mineral exploration opportunities with Sephaku Holdings. Previously with Impala Platinum and involved in Bushveld Complex research at the University of Pretoria. Member of the South African Council of Natural Scientific Professions, the Geological Society of London and the Society of Economic Geologists (US).

Carlo completed his studies with an MBA at INSEAD. He spent several years in strategic consulting and new ventures, working for many large French conglomerates between Paris and the USA and in the telecoms industry becoming a Director of the Corporate Finance Telecoms team at Warburg and later took up a global position at Lucent Technologies. He gradually became involved in the Private equity industry, first taking a senior assignment with a company owned by Apax Partners as MD International and Main Board Member at The Exchange FS, and later as Senior Vice-President for EMEA, Asia and LatAm for LCC, a telecoms engineering company initially invested by the Carlyle Group.

Nonkululeko Nyambezi-Heita

Nonkululeko Nyembezi-Heita

Nonkululeko Nyembezi-Heita is the Chief Executive Officer of Ichor Coal N.V., an international mineral resources company focusing on coal mining in South Africa.  The company operates its own coal resources with customers in South Africa and beyond. In addition, IchorCoal holds significant minority positions in other coal mining companies.

Ms Nyembezi-Heita was previously Chief Executive Officer of ArcelorMittal South Africa, the largest steel producer on the African continent and subsidiary of the ArcelorMittal Group, which in turn is the largest steel producer in the world.

Prior to that, she served as the Chief Officer of Mergers & Acquisitions for the Vodacom Group and before that, Chief Executive Officer of Alliance Capital, then local subsidiary of a New York based global investment management company.

Ms Nyembezi-Heita has a B.Sc. Honours degree in electrical engineering from the University of Manchester Institute of Science & Technology and a masters degree in the same discipline from California Institute of Technology.  She also has an MBA from the Open University (UK).

Ms Nyembezi-Heita has served as an independent non-executive director on numerous boards in both the public and private sectors. She currently serves as non-executive chairman of the Johannesburg Stock Exchange and non-executive member of the board of Old Mutual plc.

Andries Engelbrecht

Andries Engelbrecht is currently the Chief Operating Officer of Ichor Coal N.V. He has 20 years of experience in the mining industry and most recently was the Chief Operating Officer of Riversdale Mining Limited, responsible for all Africa based projects. Before that Mr. Engelbrecht held the roles of General Manager and Engineering Manager at Zululand Anthracite Colliery. He has also held positions at Khutala Colliery (Ingwe Coal Corporation) BHP Billiton and Richards Bay Coal Terminal.
