The Brakfontein Coal Project is located in the Delmas district, on the western margin of the Witbank coalfield.

Brakfontein has a valid new order Prospecting Right and a Mining Right will be applied for when measured resources have been delineated. The Brakfontein Project has a 126Mt JORC compliant indicated and inferred resource. Universal Coal is targeting 44Mt of reserves containing up to 27Mt saleable export thermal and low volatile PCI coal products.

Universal Coal completed a 1,920 metre drilling programme in Q4 2009. 148 drilled holes have so far been completed, including 34 by Universal Coal.
